2. Description of the Service

CaptionJet is an online tool that uses third-party AI providers to translate the subtitles of public YouTube videos into a target language chosen by the user. The service includes:

  • Automatic extraction of public, available subtitle tracks from a YouTube URL
  • AI-powered translation into the selected target language
  • Download of the translation in SRT, VTT, TXT, or JSON format with the original timecodes preserved
  • Side-by-side preview of the original and translated text in the browser
  • Free auxiliary tools (SRT ↔ VTT conversion, timecode shifting, merging, splitting) under /tools

3. Service Tiers and Pricing

3.1. Free trial

Each unique IP address is entitled to one (1) free trial translation, limited to videos up to a maximum length set by the service provider (currently 10 minutes). The trial is meant for evaluation only and is not a substitute for a paid translation.

3.2. Pay-per-video (anonymous one-off)

A single payment per translation, calculated from the character count of the source subtitles at the per-100,000-character rate displayed at checkout, with a minimum charge as displayed. The current rate and minimum are always visible on the pricing page and on the order summary before payment. Payment is processed by Stripe via credit or debit card; the service provider never sees the card data.

3.3. Credit wallet (registered users)

Registered users may top up a prepaid credit wallet in the packages displayed in the app. Larger packages may include a discount, displayed at the time of purchase. Credits are deducted from the wallet at the time of each translation according to a tiered schedule based on the source character count. The current tier table is shown in the app.

3.4. Currency and VAT

Prices are displayed in US dollars (USD). The service provider operates under the small-business VAT exemption regime (alanyi adómentes) under Hungarian law; no VAT is added to the listed price. Currency conversion is handled by the user's card issuer.

4. Payment Terms

  • Payment is processed by Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe Ltd. / Stripe, Inc.).
  • For pay-per-video, the fee is charged before the translation begins. For credit-wallet top-ups, the package amount is charged at the time of purchase and the credits are made available immediately upon receipt of the payment confirmation.
  • An electronic receipt is issued for every transaction by the service provider via email; Stripe additionally provides its own confirmation message.
  • Failed payments do not result in any service being delivered and no fee is charged.

5. Right of Withdrawal — Important Notice

The service is digital content delivered immediately upon the user's express consent. By initiating a translation (whether free trial or paid), or by completing a credit-wallet top-up, the user expressly consents to the immediate performance of the service and acknowledges that, in accordance with Section 29(1)(m) of Government Decree 45/2014 (II. 26.) and Article 16(m) of the Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply once the service has been performed (i.e. once the translation has been delivered, or once credits have been added to the wallet).

You will be asked to acknowledge this consent at the point of purchase.

6. Refund Policy

Because the service is fully performed digital content with the user's prior express consent, fees for completed translations and credit-wallet top-ups are non-refundable. Unused prepaid credits remain redeemable for translations on the user's account but are not refundable for cash, except in the cases listed below.

The above does not exclude or limit the user's mandatory rights under applicable consumer-protection law. Specifically, a refund will be issued where:

  • The service provider fails to deliver a paid translation due to a fault on its side and is unable to deliver after a reasonable cure period.
  • A duplicate or technically erroneous charge has been made through Stripe.
  • Mandatory consumer-protection law (in particular Act V of 2013 on the Civil Code, §§ 6:159 — 6:170 on warranty for non-conformity) requires it.

Refund requests must be submitted in writing to [email protected] with the relevant transaction id and a description of the issue. The service provider responds within 14 days.

7. Service Availability

The service provider targets a monthly availability of 90% (ninety percent), measured at the public endpoint https://captionjet.com/api/transcript over rolling calendar months, excluding scheduled maintenance announced in advance. This is a target, not a financial SLA: failure to meet the target does not, by itself, give rise to service credits or refunds, except where required by mandatory consumer-protection law.

The service depends on third-party APIs (YouTube, Stripe, Resend, AI providers); outages on those upstream services are outside the service provider's reasonable control.

8. Service Quality and Liability

  • Translations are produced by third-party AI providers. The service provider takes reasonable care in selecting providers but does not guarantee linguistic accuracy, idiomatic correctness, or cultural appropriateness of the output.
  • The service is provided on an "as is" / "as available" basis. The service provider's liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by Hungarian law. Liability for damages caused intentionally or by gross negligence, or for harm to life, bodily integrity, or health, is not excluded.
  • Any liability for indirect or consequential damages, lost profits, or loss of data is excluded to the extent permitted by law.
  • For consumers, mandatory rights under Act CLV of 1997 on Consumer Protection and the Hungarian Civil Code remain unaffected.

9. Copyright and User Responsibilities

  • The user warrants that they have the right to use, translate, and download the subtitles of the chosen video, or that doing so falls under an applicable exception (e.g. private copying, accessibility, research). Responsibility for the lawful use of YouTube content rests with the user.
  • The service provider does not retain submitted subtitles or translation output after the request is fulfilled, beyond what is needed to deliver and bill the service.
  • The translated text produced through the service is owned by the user who paid for the translation, subject to any underlying rights in the original video.
  • The CaptionJet name, logo, code, and website content are the intellectual property of the service provider.

10. Prohibited Use

The following uses of the service are not allowed and may result in suspension or termination of access without refund:

  • Automated, bulk, or scraping-style requests that bypass the in-app interface or rate limits.
  • Translation of clearly illegal content (child sexual abuse material, content that incites violence against protected groups, content distributed in violation of obvious copyright).
  • Attempts to circumvent the service's authentication, rate-limiting, or captcha mechanisms.
  • Reselling or relabelling the service as one's own without prior written agreement.

11. Modification or Termination of the Service

The service provider may modify, suspend, or terminate the service. In the event of permanent termination, users with positive credit balances will be notified by email at least 14 days in advance and offered a refund of the cash value of their unused credits.

11/A. User-Initiated Account Deletion

Registered users may delete their account at any time from the in-app account menu (re-entering the password to confirm). On deletion:

  • The login email and password are removed and the account row is pseudonymized; the user can no longer sign in or receive password resets.
  • Any remaining prepaid credit balance is forfeited and is not refunded. The credit-wallet top-up was a fully performed digital transaction at the time of purchase (see §5–§6), so the user-initiated deletion does not entitle the user to a cash refund of the unused balance. Users who wish to redeem credits before deletion can do so by running translations against the balance.
  • Past billing records (Stripe payment rows, credit-ledger entries, translation records associated with the account) are retained in pseudonymized form for the period required by Hungarian law (Sztv. § 169(2): 8 years for accounting documents).
  • The right to erasure under GDPR Article 17 is honoured to the extent compatible with the legal-retention obligation above. Users who require a more extensive erasure (e.g. removal of all retained data) may make a written request to [email protected]; the service provider will assess the request against the applicable retention obligations.

12. Complaints, Out-of-Court Dispute Resolution, and Court of Jurisdiction

12.1. Complaints can be submitted by email to [email protected]. The service provider will respond within 30 days; complaints in writing are typically answered within 14 days.

12.2. Out-of-court dispute resolution (consumers). If you are a consumer and we cannot resolve a complaint amicably, you may turn to the conciliation board competent at the service provider's seat:

Zala Megyei Békéltető Testület
8900 Zalaegerszeg, Petőfi u. 24., Hungary
Phone: +36 92 550 513
Email: [email protected]
Web: bekelteteszala.hu

12.3. EU Online Dispute Resolution. The European Commission provides an Online Dispute Resolution platform at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/, available to consumers resident in the EU.

12.4. Court of jurisdiction. Subject to the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the user's country of residence (which may give consumers the right to bring or be sued in their local courts), the parties agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Zalaegerszegi Járásbíróság (or, where required by the value or nature of the dispute, the Zalaegerszegi Törvényszék) for any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the use of the service.

13. Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of Hungary. The provisions of Government Decree 45/2014 (II. 26.) on consumer-business contracts apply where the user qualifies as a consumer.

14. Changes to These Terms

The service provider may update these Terms unilaterally. Material changes (including changes to pricing or refund terms) will be notified on the website at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms; if you do not accept them, you must stop using the service.
