Cookie Policy

Effective: May 10, 2026 | Last updated: May 10, 2026

1. What this page covers

This page describes the cookies and similar browser-storage technologies used by CaptionJet (captionjet.com). It is part of our Privacy Policy.

2. Cookies and storage we use

We aim to use as little browser storage as possible. The table below lists what is set on the captionjet.com domain and by the third-party services that the site relies on to function.

Name / itemSet byTypePurposeDuration
captionjet_token (browser localStorage, not a cookie) captionjet.com (us) Strictly necessary Stores the user's login session token after sign-in so they remain logged in across visits. No cookie is set; the token is read from local storage and sent in the Authorization request header to the API. Cleared on logout. Until logout or until the server-side session expires
Cloudflare Turnstile challenge cookies (e.g. cf_chl_*) challenges.cloudflare.com Strictly necessary (only on the signup form, when the captcha is enabled) Used by Cloudflare Turnstile to verify the signup form is being submitted by a human and not a bot. See Cloudflare Turnstile cookie reference. Up to 30 minutes per challenge
Stripe cookies (e.g. __stripe_mid, __stripe_sid) js.stripe.com / checkout.stripe.com Strictly necessary (only during the payment flow) Used by Stripe for fraud prevention and to maintain the checkout session. Set on Stripe's domain when the user is redirected to or interacts with the Stripe Checkout. See the Stripe cookie policy. Up to 1 year (Stripe-managed)

We do not use analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics), advertising cookies, or social-media cookies. If we ever introduce them, this page will be updated and a consent banner with a granular choice will be shown before any non-essential cookie is set, in line with GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive.

3. Categories of cookies

3.1. Strictly necessary

These are required for the website to provide the service the user explicitly requested (logging in, paying, completing the captcha). Under Section 155(4) of the Hungarian Electronic Communications Act (Eht.) and Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive, these may be used without prior consent because they are essential for the service.

3.2. Analytics, marketing, social

None at this time. If introduced in the future they will be opt-in only.

4. Managing cookies and storage

You can clear or block cookies and clear local storage at any time through your browser. Quick links:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

If you clear or block strictly-necessary items the site may not work as expected: you may be logged out, the captcha may fail, and Stripe Checkout may refuse to open.

5. Third-party processing notice

Some items above are set by third-party services and processed under their own privacy policies. The full list of processors and the legal basis for each transfer is in our Privacy Policy.

6. Legal basis

Strictly-necessary cookies and storage rely on Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive and our legitimate interest under GDPR Article 6(1)(f) in providing the service the user requested. Any future analytics or marketing items will rely on prior consent under GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and Article 7 of the ePrivacy Directive.
